You know how there is the desktop (create shortcut in the sendto menu...? Is there a way to creat such a file?
I know how to access the sendto folder and add things to it, but I was wondering if I could create something like hotspot (create shortcut)? Hotspot being the folder where I keep all my run shortcuts.
If I'm making sense, I'd appreciate some tech help. In the mean time I'll keep googling my idea.
Thanks all!
Your sendto folder is in c:documents and settingsyourUsernamesendTo I assume making a shortcut link to something and putting the shortcut link there would do the trick. There're also freeware programs I've seen that could do it, though it's been so long since I used one I couldn't tell you one.
Hope that helps.
wow. apparently the boards don't like backslashes. I'll replace that path with slashes and hopefully it doesn't puke it up like that last attempt:
c:/documents and settings/yourUsername/sendTo
It works great to have a shortcut link in the sendto folder, but what I want to create is something similar to the desktop (create shortcut).
For example, I send my music folder to hotspot (create shortcut). Then there is a shortcut of my music folder inside my hotspot folder.
Any thoughts on how I can do this? Or any ideas on what I should search for in google?
Ok well, I just found a temporary answer to my want. I do all of it the same, put a shortcut in the sendto folder, but when I want a shortcut sent to that shortcut, I hold down the control and shift keys. It works! Not quite what I wanted, but it'll do for now.
Lol, kind of fun. In my search on google, there was a guy that wanted to do just what I wanted. Pretty fun!
hm. I'm sorry. I guess I'm still missing what you're trying to do. Glad you found at least a temporary way to do it. :)
Sorry I don't have an answer, but a question for you, but just so I'm clear on what you want, is that you want to add another menu item to the applications key that will make a shortcut and instead of sending the shortcut to the default location, you want it to be sent to the hotspot folder?
No prob on the misunderstanding.
Yep, that is what I want. Just like you would send a shortcut to the desktop, I want to send one to the hotspot folder. This hotspot folder is where I keep all my run command shortcuts. So I can hit windows-R then type word to open wordpad, or audacity to open audacity.
This control shift fix is a good one, but there still must be a way to learn how to create the application.
Thanks all!
Oh, can you closer explain that thing with run command? How did you do, that you can run programs from custom fulder using run dialog.
I thought, that there are some predefined folders.
To your problem - maybe use some easy scripting language, such as Autoit.
Hmmm, don't know anything about audo-it...smile.
Ok, to take the control shift fix further... I tried the other command, using shift while entering on the target, and that moves the file or folder I want. That's a handy tool as well. Just took a file from my desktop and moved it to a folder under my documents.
As far as the run command thing, I'll paste the directions I learned from. I personally think it is one of the coolest things I've discovered so far. I use it daily!
1. Create a folder for your shortcuts under your user folder, eg, c:documents and settingsusernameshortcuts
2. Right click My Computer, click properties.
3. Click the advanced tab.
4. Click the Environment Variables button at the bottom of the tab.
5. Under user variables, add a new variable named "Path".
6. Enter %homedrive%%homepath%shortcuts for the variable value.**
7. Create shortcuts and plop them in the shortcuts folder you created.
Between this run command shortcut, and copernic winkey, I'm a keyboard shortcut wiz...smile! Enjoy all!
Great! I'll use it too!! Interesting, that I never read about it.
Autoit is great thing.
I think, that url is:
http://www.autoitscript.com
It's wery simple, but wery useful programming language - it has wery comprehensive manual.
I created timer and timed shutdown in it - but I'm not good programmer.
It's fun to play with it - it's recently updated with beta versions - there is large set of standard functions and much larger set of user defined functions - functions created by users.
It has allso good forum.
Try and please send me a feedback, if you can.
Look in my profile for mail or just pm.
